We enjoy the best health when we are careful about what we eat, the company we keep, the images we absorb, the time we respect and the people we respect. Such classic advice has been a part of folk songs for centuries, but in these modern times many of us have given up this knowledge.
Curiously, the starving societies of our time have known us less of the ways to stay healthy, where we eat fast food and sugar-filled snacks, sleep less, exercise less, talk less and talk about mortgages. More worrying, schooling of children, reducing our reserves. Many of us walk on adrenaline – or speed!
We know that this fast lifestyle cannot go on. If we are lucky, we can maintain better health if we buy a gym membership, do yoga or even study. But many of us fall on the couch in front of the TV, reaching for the TV remote.
There is an option.
Real food, with energy.
Real face-to-face time with family and friends.
Real-time with yourself, enjoy some sun and fresh air while sitting quietly in the garden or in the park.
We are humans, not humans. When we give up our addiction to action, to engage and ‘get’ and just – just sit and breathe – we give our bodies a chance to recover and reset balance.
One of life’s challenges is to remain a ‘witness’, a move that is over in haste. That extra space allows you to avoid being over-involved and over-emotional by the grace of a distance of one millimeter.
Seize the day and remember that you are in charge of your life.
